Chinese promising star Wang Yihan eased to her first World University Games badminton singles title when she beat Chinese Taipei's Cheng Shao-Chieh 2-0 on Wednesday.
The 19-year-old spent merely 30 minutes to clinch the 21-12, 21- 17 victory.
Zhang emerged on the horizon last year when she pulled off the World Cup women's singles title in Yiyang, Hunan province in China and the youth world championship.
The Shanghai native breezed to take the first set before taking the lead at 20-14 in the second.
She squandered the first match point and hit too long in the second. She smashed the shuttle into the net on her third try before securing the win on her fourth match point.
Earlier in the afternoon, Yoo Yeon Seong/Kim Min Jun from South Korea fought their way to overcame Fang Chieh-Min and Cheng Wen- Hsing of Chinese Taipei 21-19, 13-21, 21-17 to win the mixed doubles gold at the Universiade.
