More than 110 athletes from 17 countries and regions will take part in the "Good Luck Beijing" Canoe/Kayak Slalom China Open today at Shunyi's Olympic venue.

Participants include Athens Olympic C1 Canoe Single champion Tony Estanguet and women's world No 1 K1 Kayak paddler Jana Dukatova,

The Chinese Canoe/Kayak team has sent 35 athletes to compete including all who will attend Beijing Olympic Games in 2008.

Xin Qunying, vice-president of Chinese Canoe Association, said in a conference on Wednesday that the Chinese team would not perform at the level of world powers Germany and Slovakia.

The team's aim is to strive to reach the top ten in each event.

"Beijing residents, especially residents in Shunyi, are enthusiastic to watch the competition," Xin said.

"All the tickets have already been sold out, and many people without a ticket kept calling the organizers for extra tickets."
