Christiano Ronaldo was sent off for a head-butt as Manchester United suffered a second consecutive Premier League draw at Portsmouth on Wednesday.

After being held goalless by 10-man Reading in their opening clash, the champions looked set for a win thanks to a Paul Scholes goal 15 minutes into the match but was again denied three points by a second-half header from striker Benjani.

Chelsea continued their perfect start to the season with a fine 2-1 comeback win at Reading while Manchester City, Fulham and Wigan all booked home wins.

Following his protracted summer transfer saga, Carlos Tevez finally donned a red shirt for the first time at Fratton Park.

The Argentine was involved in the United goal when he set it up perfectly for Scholes to lash a 25-yard drive past David James, but was unable to secure his new club a first three-point haul of the season.

Portsmouth levelled in the 53rd minute when Benjani Mwaruwari timed his run from deep to perfection to power a header home from Matthew Taylor's left-wing cross.

Sulley Muntari was shown red after picking up a second yellow card on 83 minutes but two minutes later and before United could take any advantage, Ronaldo was dismissed for butting Richard Hughes.

Steve Coppell's side, fresh from a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford, took the lead on the half-hour when Andre Bikey tapped into an empty net after Chelsea's keeper Petr Cech, returning to the scene of his fractured skull of last season, had flapped at a high ball.

Frank Lampard's surge into the box brought about Chelsea's equaliser two minutes into the second half. Three minutes later, Drogba netted the winner with a brilliant curling effort from the edge of the area.

Sven Goran Eriksson's first home game in charge of Manchester City finished on a high note as Michael Johnson's first professional goal downed promoted Derby County 1-0.

The promoted duo Birmingham City and Sunderland drew 2-2 at St Andrews, with the visitors snatching a last-minute equaliser.

Elsewhere, Fulham condemned Bolton to a second straight defeat after coming from behind to win 2-1 at Craven Cottage while Middlesbrough goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer's spill gifted Wigan a 1-0 win.
