Judo powerhouse Japan dominated the judo events, which ended here on Friday at the Universiade, reaping half of the total 18 gold medals.

The Japanese judo delegation, composed of top domestic judokas, topped the medal standing of the events at the Universiade, followed by South Korea and China.

China got two golds but no other medals while South Korea snatched six silver and four bronze medals besides two golds.

The two golds for Chinese judo delegation were contributed by Tong Wen in women's over 78kg category and Liu Huanyuan in women's open weight division, both of which are China's traditional strong points

The Chinese judo delegation had set its goal as three golds at the Universiade but failed to achieve it.

"Some players failed to make good performance," said the delegation head Su Changlai.

Tong Wen and Liu Huanyuan will compete with Yuan Hua, gold medalist of Sydney Olympics, for the qualification of upcoming Beijing Olympics.

The other five golds were split by Mongolia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, France and Uzbekistan.
