Dr Kang Young Joong, president of Badminton World Federation, brought in the open the current crisis that the organization is controlled by select few, aiming to save BWF and badminton.
Kang told a press conference on Saturday that over the last couple of months, BWF has been inundated with various serious allegations and he had been to clarify the current crisis.
"I normally do not like to bring such matters out in the open," he said in a statement.
"I'm sorry that I have to take all of you away from being out there in the arena to witness some world class badminton. But this is something that I need to do to save the BWF and badminton in general from further turmoil.
"I would have preferred the media to focus their attention on the game but instead we had a lead story in one of the local newspapers on the call by the Malaysian Sports Minister asking the BWF deputy president to resign.
"This is very unfortunate, but my personal belief is that the call by the Sports Minister was timely and necessary to safeguard not only the good name of Malaysia but also the BWF."
BWF deputy president Datuk Punch Gunalan has been advised by Malaysia's Sports Minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman to quit the federation.
According to The Malay Mail, Azalina was instructed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to resolve the crisis. The crisis was triggered by the sacking of BWF general manager and COO P. Ganga Rao last month.
