Romanian men's gymnastics team qualified for the Olympic Games in Beijing, by ranking fifth after six of eight subdivisions in the team preliminaries at the World Championships in Stuttgart, local medai reported on Tuesday.
Romania achieved the results by bringing back home Cosmin Malita after team leader Marian Dragulescu and Adrian Bucur sustained injuries, said the national Rompres news agency in the report.
The coaches had to call the following team: Razvan Selariu, Flavius Koczi, Daniel Popescu, Robert Stanescu, Cosmina Malita and Alin Jivan.
Razvan Selariu ranked 6th, 91.125 points, in the all-around competition, with Flaviu Koczi ranking 9th, 90.150 points, so that both Romanian gymnasts have secured their presence in the finals.
The Romanian gymnasts had a sinuous evolution on Tuesday, in the qualification on teams competition. They entered the competition well at the rings, and got 60.900 points, they were very good at vaults with 64.875 points, although world champion Marian Dragulescu was missing, they did well at the parallel bars (59.475), and they failed in high bar (56.175) and then made a comeback in the floor competition (59.975) and finished the competition well at the pommel horse (60.225).
