Argentine soccer giant River Plate defeated rival Newell's 3-1 on Wednesday in a delayed second round match in Argentina's domestic league.
River, managed by Daniel Passarella, scored through Ariel Ortega from a 20th minute penalty; Colombia's Radamel Falcao Garcia, from open play in minute 51; and from a 74th minute Matias Abelarias free kick.
Paraguay's Alejandro da Silva scored in minute 68 for Newell's who lost Claudio Husain in minute 72, when the player received his second yellow card.
After six rounds, River has nine league points, tying with seven other teams in Argentina's domestic league. Boca leads with 13 points and Independiente, Velez Sarsfield, Lanus and Tigre are all ahead of River.
Ortega, the scorer of a controversial penalty, had to leave the field after suffering a right thigh strain.
It looks likely that River will be missing four key players: a tough position ahead of Sunday's game against Velez Sarsfield and Wednesday's match against Arsenal.
Apart from the injured Ortega, both Falcao and Chile's Alexis Sanchez have been called up for friendlies by their respective national sides.
Mauro Rosales suffered an injury in River's last match, against Racing, and will not play for at least 15 days.
The league's leading goalscorer is German Denis of Independiente with seven goals.
