Fiji's star sprinter Jone Delai received his best birthday gift Wednesday by winning the gold at 13th South Pacific Games (SPG) here.

The 40-year-old veteran sprinter clocking a time of 10.61, quite good for his age, and proving he is still king of the track in the South Pacific.

The South Pacific Games recorder holder, Delai has attended five South Pacific Games over the last 20 years.

He said the Samoa's Game is his last.

"I'm so happy to have gold, and that's a big achievement for me, " said Delai.

"But I think my last event will be in Beijing next year," said Delai.

Delai, who noted that age does not matter when the heart still beats with fire to race, said he will look to sign off from sprinting in the Beijing Olympics and try his best in the competition.
