Kenya's volleyball team thrashed their neighbors Uganda 3-0 as the 16th Africa Cup of Nations Women's Volleyball Championship entered its second match day in Nairobi.
Veteran Caroline Wanjiru combined well with Mercy Moim in enabling the local side to dismiss the Ugandans in one-sided match.
In the first encounter of the day, South Africa beat Rwanda 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-14).
This was Rwanda's second loss after they suffered the same fate in the hands of Senegal on the opening day when they lost to the West Africans 3-0.
All Africa Games silver medalists Cameroon beat Botswana 3-1 in another encounter after losing the first set 21-25.
However the Cameroonians settled down and won all the remaining sets at 25-6 and 25-22.
Egypt won their first match of the tournament when they beat hard fighting Senegal 3-1.
The Egyptians won their first two sets 25-22 and 30-28. However the Senegalese team regained their composure and stretched the North Africans to the limit and won the third set 29-27, with the giant France-based professional Niane Diouck Fatou making all the difference and enabling them to win the set.
However, Egypt replied in the last set through the indefatigable Engy El Shamy.
The winners will qualify for the world championships to be held in Tokyo, Japan, in November.
