For the Swedes, breaking the jinx at women's World Cup comes first in their must-do list. Then follows the goal of progression into the second round.
"We have focused on our first match and we've done lots of training for that," assistant coach Lilie Persson told Xinhua during a training session.
"We are ready for the game and the girls are eager to play."
Sweden, who has never won its opening game at the previous five World Cups, will start its 2007 campaign with a clash with Nigeria on Tuesday.
"Nigeria is a good team. They have several good players, especially dangerous forwards, but I think we can beat them," said defender Hanna Marklund.
"We've lost all the opening matches before, but now it's time for us to win, we are in a difficult group, every match is important, I hope we can progress through from this group, it's our first goal," she added.
The United States and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea are also drawn in Group B.
