Kenya won their third game against Cameroon in the ongoing 16th Africa Cup of Nation Women's Volleyball Championships on Saturday.
The Kenyan women thrashed All Africa Games silver medalists Cameroon 3-0 as the race for the semi-final berth reached its critical moment in Nairobi.
The East Africans dismissed their Western African counterparts 25-12, 25-13 and 25-18 to book their semi-final place next week.
In Saturday's other matches, Senegal beat South Africa 3-0 (25-21, 25-17 and 25-18).
France-based Senegalese Niane Fatou Diack proved once more that she was a cut above the rest when she scored the most points to lead her team to victory.
However it was the match between Tunisia and Egypt that had the crowd on the edge of their seats.
Tunisia won the first set 26-24. The Pharaohs upset their rivals in the second set with a 25-19 win. In an encounter that had the makings of a final match both teams resorted to a brain game to outwit their opponents.
Tunisia had the last laugh when they won the remaining two sets 28-26 and 25-21 respectively to carry the day with a 3-1 margin against their North African opponents.
Senegal, Tunisia and Egypt all have equal chances of qualifying for the group B semi-finals scheduled for Monday.
All the three teams have won all their matches and it is only a matter of arithmetic that will determine the first two team in the group.
Pundits said the tournament rekindles the traditional rivalry between Kenya and Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia and extend Nigeria from the West.
It has been hard to predict ultimate winners in any tournament featuring the said teams whether at national or club level and home ground advantage rarely influences results.
The winners will qualify for the World Championships to be held in Tokyo, Japan, in November.
