The wheels finally came off Kevin Ullyett and Paul Hanley at the US Open tennis tournament in the early hours of Thursday in New York, The Herald reported on Saturday.

According to the newspaper, Zimbabwe's Ullyett and his Australian partner lost in the men's doubles semi-finals to the Czech pair of Lukas Dlouhy and Pavel Vizner.

Ninth seeds Dlouhy and Vizner brewed up a shocker when they ousted number five seeds Ullyett and Hanley in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 in just 66 minutes.

Thursday's defeat left Ullyett and Hanley with only one title on the road this year -- the Sydney International -- which they won in Australia at the beginning of the year.

The defeat also dashed Ullyett's hopes of lifting his second US Open doubles title after winning it in 2001 with now retired fellow Zimbabwean Wayne Black.
