Prague plans to compete in the contest for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games by a project of "Green Olympics", environment-friendly games in a chamber atmosphere, local media reported on Wednesday.
The idea of "Green Olympics" is that "a tourist goes for a walk along the Charles Bridge (in Prague's centre) in the morning, then takes a train to Racice (near Prague) to watch the rowing event, then returns to Prague for the track and field finals, and after a dinner goes for a walk in the Petrin hill (in Prague's centre)," Tomas Petera from the Praha Olympijska (Olympic Prague) company said.
An "Olympic route" would run through Prague, linking individual places so that the fans can easily walk from one sports field to another, according to Petera.
"Green Olympics" also means focus on the environment, the report said.
Newly-built sports grounds would not harm the environment and would be built from recyclable materials. In addition, railway would be preferred for the transportation of the fans.
Prague wants to submit this plan to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) within the first part of a detailed questionnaire that examines the motivation of individual cities for their interest in organizing the Olympics.
Petera said this part of the questionnaire was the most important.
"This is what can captivate the (International Olympic) Committee. This is a part in which the questionnaires of individual cities will differ most," Petera said.
Prague is to complete the questionnaire and send it to IOC by January 14 next year. It will learn whether it was selected as a candidate in June.
One of the ways of making the preparation for the games effective would be the establishment of a temporary ministry of sport or at least a government agency in charge of sport, according to Petera.
Prague, the capital of the Czech republic, officially joined the contest for the 2016 summer Olympic Games last Tuesday.
According to IOC chairman Jacques Rogge, other bid cities include Madrid, Tokyo, Chicago along with Doha, Qatar and Baku, Azerbaijan. The IOC will select the host city in October 2009 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
