Los Angeles is one of two finalists to become the host city for the 2011 Weightlifting World Championships, the Los Angeles Sports Council announced on Wednesday.
The International Weightlifting Federation's executive board will select either Los Angeles or Paris when it meets in Chiang Mai, Thailand, on Saturday.
If Los Angeles is selected, the event will be held at the Shrine Auditorium near downtown.
Los Angeles Sports Council President David Simon is among those in Thailand to present the city's bid to the international federation.
