Madrid presented on Thursday its candidacy to host the 2016 Olympic and Para-Olympic Games, mayor Alberto Ruiz said that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) received Madrid's postulation.
IOC's term to present candidcacies expires on Thursday. IOC will announce the candidacies on Friday.
The cities competing for the 2016 Olympic Games include Chicago (United States), Tokyo (Japan), Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Prague (Czech Republic), Doha (Qatar) and Madrid (Spain).
The IOC will announce the finalists in June, 2008 and the winner in October, 2009.
Madrid's mayorship said the presentation of their candidcacy is indispensable "to continue in the Olympic race."
Spain organized the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona port city.
The 2008 Olympic games will be hosted by Beijing (China) and the 2012Games by London (Britain).
