New world marathon queen Catherine Ndereba has been promoted to the rank of Chief Officer One in the Kenya Prisons Service for her great performance in Osaka World Athletics Championships, local media reported on Tuesday.

Gilbert Omondi, commissioner of prisons, confirmed Ndereba's new position on Monday in honor for her achievement in Osaka, Japan, where she won the women's marathon gold medal, the newspaper Daily Nation reported.

Omondi said Ndereba who used to serve as a Chief Officer II, had displayed a high level of discipline in her career in road races. She had made both the country and Kenya Prisons proud.

Ndereba was also four-time Boston marathon champion.
