Sweden coach Thomas Dennerby said on Tuesday that his team remains one of world's best and he will not resign despite failing to reach the knockout stage in the Women's World Cup.
"I have about eight young players in the squad. We are a young team and we are still a good team," said Dennerby. "I coached Sweden for about 29 matches and we just lost five, most to Germany and the United States. So I don't think I will resign."
Sweden, runners-up in the last World Cup four years ago, failed to qualify from the group stage for the first time in their FIFA Women's World Cup trip though they beat DPR Korea 2-1 in a Group B match Tuesday night.
"I think it was the best match we played in this World Cup," said Dennerby. "We had a good start and scored an early goal."
"I think the reason why we didn't qualify was the match against Nigeria. We drew with them and if we won that match, it would be easy for us to qualify."
"We had almost nine chances during the match against Nigeria. But our players wasted all of them and brought us to today's trouble," said Dennerby.
