The Tanzania Olympic Committee (TOC) has urged the country's athletes to start preparing seriously for the 2008 Olympic Games or face the possibility of being left out.

TOC secretary-general Filbert Bayi told local media that only two sporting disciplines in the country had so far shown interest in Olympic preparation.

These two national associations are the Athletics Tanzania and the Boxing Federation of Tanzania.

"It is only the athletics and boxing governing bodies that are making serious preparations to qualify for the games," said Filbert Bayi.

Participation in the 2008 Olympic Games to be held in Beijing of China requires either qualification through international competitions or judgment through the worldwide rankings by various sporting federations.

Tanzania competed in only the track and field discipline at the 2004 Olympic Games held in Athens of Greece.
