Zambian boxers are on the verge of missing out at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games due to Zambia Amateur Boxing Federation (ZABF)'s disorganization, Times of Zambia reported on Wednesday.
ZABF interim president Mastered Musonda was quoted as saying that all-Africa Games light-welterweight gold medalist Hastings Bwalya and bantamweight Evans Chungu would not travel for the World championships because some ZABF officials submitted late and wrong documents for sponsorship to the government.
The world championships, a qualifier for next year's Olympic Games, is set for Chicago between October 23 and November 3.
Musonda said he was now stuck with the documents as they were handed to him after they were wrongly sent to the ministry of Sport, Youth and Child Development.
The papers for sponsorship were supposed to have gone through the Sports Council of Zambia before reaching the ministry.
ZABF now has to turn to the business community for possible sponsorship to enable the boxers fight at the World championships.
