Spain's Luis Perez won the 18th stage of the Tour of Spain cycling from Talavera de la Reina to Avila on Thursday.
However, Russian Denis Menchov finished first overall, followed by Australian Cadel Evans and Spaniard Carlos Sastre.
Evans, Sastre and Perez formed part of a 13-man break, including Menchov, which went clear in the first hour.
Menchov's compatriot Vladimir Efimkin, caught out behind on the mountainous stage, dropped from second overall to fifth.
The Tour of Spain finishes on Sunday in Madrid.
