The former boss of Corinthians, a top Brazilian soccer club, has admitted that Corinthians won the 2005 domestic league thanks to illegal tactics, Brazil television station Record aired on Monday.
The station played recordings of former president, Alberto Dualib, saying: "We won, but if it had not been for that shit to do with the cancellation of 11 games, we were out. The legitimate champion is in fact Internacional".
The recordings were made in 2006, by police investigating Corinthians relationship with British investors group MSI, owners of the Corinthians soccer department since late 2004. Police suspect MSI of money laundering, tax evasion and foreign exchange fraud.
Dualib also describes as suspect at key 2005 match, where Corinthians drew with Internacional, which was leading by one league point ahead of the match.
Dualib, who resigned his presidency of 14 years last week, said the referee, Marcio Rezende de Freitas, had ignored a penalty in favor of Internacional, which could have changed both the match and the results of the league.
