Football club Flamengo announced on Wednesday that it signed midfielder Kleberson, who won a FIFA World Cup title for the Brazilian team in 2002.
Kleberson underwent admission tests earlier, and participated in a press conference on Wednesday evening. As he arrived at Flamengo's headquarters in Rio, the club's fans lifted him on their shoulders.
"I have waited a long time for that. Everybody wants to play here. Every child has once thought of playing for Flamengo and it is not different with me," said the player, referring to the fact that the club hosts one of the most popular football teams in Brazil.
However, Kleberson will only have his debut in the team in Feb. 2008, as the Brazilian League's enrolment deadline has expired and Flamengo will not enter any other championship until then. His contract with the club will be valid up to Dec. 2008.
Kleberson has not been playing since April 14, informed his agent Marcos Antonio Silva. According to Silva, Turkey's team Besiktas did not follow some of the clauses established in the contract with the midfielder, which prompted them to start a process requesting an authorization from FIFA to leave the club.
The 28-year-old footballer launched his career in the club Londrina, and then moved to Atletico Paranaense, both in his home state, Parana. He helped Atletico win a Brazilian League title in 2001.
Following the victory in the Japan/South Korea World Cup, U.K. team Manchester United hired Kleberson for two seasons, before Besiktas signed him in 2005.
Flamengo currently occupies the 14th position in the 2007 Brazilian League, only three positions above the relegation zone.
