Azerbaijan has invited world wrestling champion Farid Mansurov to join its bid committee for the 2016 Olympic Games.

Deputy Prime Minister Yagub Eyubov will head Baku's 32-member committee. Other members include the head of Azerbaijan Airlines and the chairwoman of the composers' union.

Mansurov won gold last month in the 66-kilogram (146-pound) division at the world wrestling championships in Baku.

The oil-rich Azerbaijan has seen its economy boom in recent years, fueled by its massive offshore oil and gas reserves.

Baku is one of the seven cities in the running for the 2016 Olympics, along with Rio de Janeiro, Madrid, Chicago, Tokyo, Prague and Doha.

The IOC will select the host city in October 2009.
