A rainfall process will occur in Shanghai and east China coastal areas during the 2007 Special Olympics, together with the temperature dropping and strong wind from Oct. 7-9, said the local organizers here on Thursday.

The event, running from Oct. 2 to 11 in Shanghai, has been enjoying nice weather thus far due to the Pacific subtropical high pressure persisting over the east China coastal areas.

But the intensified typhoon Krosa is moving northwest at the speed of 15 kilometers per hour.

Under the joint influence of the outer cloud belt of Krosa and the cold air moving southward from north China, the rain is forecast to come on Oct. 7 and last three days during the Special Olympics.

A record of 7,291 athletes from 164 countries and regions are taking part in the biggest sports event of 2007, with the eldest aged 69 and the youngest at 8.
