Police on Sunday arrested Argentine soccer legend Diego Maradona and charged him with involvement in a 2006 car accident, as he arrived in Buenos Aires's Ezeiza International Airport on a flight from Italy.
Police grabbed Maradona as he arrived on the Alitalia flight and told him of an Obligatory Subpoena Order, issued by city courts. He was then taken to the court which is investigating an incident on Feb. 10, 2006, where Maradona allegedly injured a young couple while driving through Buenos Aires' Mataderos neighborhood.
Prosecutors allege that Maradona drove a vehicle into a phone booth injuring the nearby pair. Maradona, who was released on Sunday, insists he was not driving the vehicle.
