Lornah Kiplagat set the new world best result of women's half-marathon on Sunday after timing one hour six minutes 25 seconds at the world road running championships.
The Kenyan-born Dutchwoman shattered the previous mark of 1:06:44 set by South African Elana Meyer in 1999 and defended her title in a largely solo run.
Kiplagat also broke her own world record for 20 kms, clocking 1:02:57 to make it faster by 24 seconds than her result set at last year's inaugural championships in Debrecen, Hungary.
"Everything just went perfect today," said Kiplagat. "With four kilometers left, I realized that the record was possible."
The 33-year-old. who has represented the Netherlands since 2003,pocketed 80,000 US dollars, with 30,000 dollars for the victory along with a 50,000 dollars record bonus.
Kenyans Mary Keitany and Pamela Chepchumba finished second and third, clocking 1:06:48 and 1:08:06 respectively. Keitany's time was a national record. Source: Xinhua
