Tottenham remain in the bottom three of the Premier League after losing 3-1 at Newcastle on Monday.

Spurs' slack defense again proved costly as Magpies claimed points, plunging under-fire manager Martin Jolinto into even deeper water.

They were lucky to keep a clean sheet for 45 minutes, but the game changed on the stroke of half-time when Michael Dawson failed to clear a long ball cross from Jose Enrique and Martins swiveled to fire past Radek Cerny from just inside the box.

Six minutes after the break Dawson again was the defender at fault as he was unable to pick up Cacapa, who met Faye's corner with a powerful header into the net.

Robbie Keane's close-range finish on 57 minutes gave the visitors brief hope as he tapped home the rebound from Bent's header which hit against the post.

For a spell Spurs looked like they were back in the game but their resistance was ended 17 minutes from the whistle by substitute James Milner, who crashed home an unstoppable volley after his first effort was blocked by Jermaine Jenas.
