The 49th World Team Table Tennis Championships raised its curtain on Saturday.
Li Changchun, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, declared open of the table tennis gala, which featured more than 700 players from over 130 countries and regions.
The competitions will be held from February 24 to March 2 with two gold medals of the men's and women's team events up for grab.
China, reigning champion in both events, will send its top paddlers including Ma Lin, Wang Liqin, Wang Hao, Zhang Yining and Wang Nan to defend the honors.
Before the opening ceremony, Li Changchun met International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) president Adham Sharara.
