China said on Tuesday Greek media's report blaming the "positive" doping test results of the Greece weightlifting team on a Shanghai-based drug maker does not tally with facts according to initial investigation.

"The Chinese side paid great attention to the issue, and according to our initial investigation, the facts were not in accord with what had been reported by some foreign media," said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu.

Greek weightlifting coach Christos Iakovou was suspended last Friday after 11 athletes from his team failed doping tests made by the World Anti-Doping Agency.

Iakovou resigned and was suspended after the first samples from the unidentified athletes tested positive.

Greek media have reported that the doping test results might be blamed on medicines provided by the Shanghai-based Auspure Biotechnology Co., Ltd.

Jiang said when asked to comment on the report that the Chinese government has always adhered to the anti-doping position and conducted strict and responsible management over dopes.

She said China had instructed relevant departments to further investigate into the case immediately and the Chinese side would cooperate closely with the Greek side to find out the truth.
