German champions Bayern Munich could manage only one home point in their second Champions League group game after they saw unwilling 1-1 draw against French champions Lyon at home.

Bayern's last home game in the Champions League was 540 days ago. They had hope for a win. But, after going into the interval 0-1 behind through a Martin Demichelis deflection, unfocussed Bayern were saved by Ze Roberto.

With four point ahead of their next game, away to AC Florence, Bayern look set to advance into the last 16.

Bayern coach Jurgen Klinsmann sprung a surprise by leaving captain Mark van Bommel on the bench and made five changes from Bayern's last game.

As expected French star Franck Ribery for the first time this season played from the kick-off. His lacking of pace suggests he is still not fully match fit after his long injury lay-off.

Looking sharp, Bayern created numerous first-half chances which Miroslav Klose, Philipp Lahm, Ribery and Luca Toni, more than once, failed to convert.

Playing elegant football, Lyon, too, created chances. The Alianz Stadium fell silent in the 25th minute when Juninho's free-kick from fully 45 yards skimmed the top of Demichelis' head and flew into the far corner.

Bayern pressed hard in the second half. Toni again failed to take goal chances, but Ze Roberto showed how it was done with a 14-meter header from an accurate Klose cross in the 52nd minute.

Bayern continued to attack the Lyon goal as they asserted midfield dominance, but Lyon, too, threatened from dangerous counters.
