Six South Korean tourists were wounded Friday in a shooting accident took place in Saipan, a Pacific resort island, local media reported.

An unidentified gunman opened more than 10 bullets towards the tourists who were visiting a popular tourist spot in downtown Saipan, and then ran away, Yonhap News Agency quoted local officials as saying.

One of the six South Koreans was badly wounded but he is not in a critical condition, while the other five were slightly injured, a Foreign Ministry official told Yonhap, but noting that it is still unclear whether the attacker specifically targeted the South Koreans.

Meanwhile, Yonhap said the Saipan Tribune, a local newspaper, reported later that the attacker, likely to have been an employee at a shooting range, shot himself to death after two separate shootings that killed four individuals and two children under 10 years old.
