A software-based security system enabling a rapid response to terrorist attacks during the Beijing Olympics has been developed, Xinhua reported.
It pioneers the application of weather analysis to strikes involving explosives, nuclear, biochemical and radiological agents, the director of Beijing Meteorological Observatory Guo Hu said.
Given these agents are dispersed in the air a knowledge of weather data, primarily wind direction and speed, are invaluable for emergency evacuation, observatory engineer Zhang Mingying was quoted as saying by Xinhua.
"It sharpens the country's counter-terrorism capabilities to secure a safe and harmonious Olympics," Guo said.
All venues for the 2008 sporting gala are included in the system, including the futuristic National Stadium, dubbed the "Bird's Nest" and the National Aquatics Center, or "Water Cube," Zhang said.
It can also work if there are several attacks in different places, Xinhua reported.
