Qingdao team won its third weightlifting gold to become the biggest winner in women's weightlifting competitions at the Chinese City Games as Li Xia was crowned in the women's 75kg in Central China's Wuhan on Sunday.

Host city Wuhan also won its first weightlifting gold medal as Li Xia claimed the title in the women's 75kg with breeze.

Kang Yue of Qingdao took slight advantage in body weight to beat Li Juan of Nanchang, winning the gold medal in the women's 69kg category.

Qingdao won gold medals in the women's 48kg class and 53kg division on Friday.

Touching barbells at the age of 12, the 16-year-old girl had never participated in the national competitions before.

"This is my first experience in a multi-sport games and the gold medal is a surprising gift," said Li.

Both Kang and Li hoisted a total of 245kg, but Li had to settle with the silver because she was 0.54kg heavier than Kang.

Li, silver medalist in the world junior championships in 2007, cried in front of the press after the competition, saying that shehad aimed at gold medal before coming here.

"My back was hurt in my fifth attempt and it influenced my performance in my last lift," Li said with tears.

Shu Jiao, representing Yan'an team, clinched the bronze at 240kg.

Li Xia, bronze medallist at the National Games in 2005, combined lifts of 123kg in the snatch with 138kg in the clean and jerk to finish with 261kg.

"It's the best gift for my grandpa. He passed away before last City Games four years ago," Li told the press, choking with sobs.

Li, sixth place winner at last City Games, was the only granddaughter in her family.

The 20-year-old Li took the lead in the snatch as she lifted 123kg, eight kilograms more than her closest rival.

She nailed down the gold medal in her first jerk at 138kg. Cui Sha of Taiyuan won the silver at 250kg and Li Xiaoqian took the bronze at 241kg.

Wuhan team had won a silver and a bronze in the previous competitions when Tian Yuan clinched the bronze in the women's 48kg division and Feng Jia claimed the silver in the women's 63kg class.
