The New York Yankees formally introduced their new manager, former player and coach Joe Girardi, at a news conference at Yankee Stadium on Thursday afternoon.
Girardi becomes the 32nd manager in the team's 103-year-old history.
The 43-year-old former catcher accepted the offer to succeed Joe Torre earlier this week.
He signed a $7.8 million, three-year contract with the Yankees. The contract includes a signing bonus of $300,000 payable over three years, annual salaries of $2.5 million, and the chance to earn performance bonuses.
Girardi was the Yankees bench coach under Torre in 2005 and was the team's catcher from 1996 to 1999, helping the team win three World Championships.
