Chinese Li Na scored an upset win over top seed Nicole Vaidisova in the quarterfinals of the Australian Women's Hardcourt tennis championships in Gold Coast on Thursday.
The unseeded Li, 25, setting her sights on Olympic glory after months of injury, defeated the Czech in straight sets 6-3, 6-3.
On her way back, the top female tennis player in China also put aside seventh seeded Austrian Sybille Bammer in the first round.
Meanwhile, defending champion Dinara Safina was also defeated by Israel's Shahar Peer.
After losing the first set, Peer mounted a come back to defeat the Russian 4-6, 6-1 and 7-6 (10/8) in a two-and-a-half hour marathon battle.
