The Czech government gave its legal guarantees for the summer Olympics which Prague would like to host in 2016, in spite of the two junior governing parties' reservations about the step, Minister Dzamila Stehlikova said on Wednesday.
By signing the legal guarantees the government has pledged to respect the Olympic charter and to grant free entry and movement to the accredited participants in the Olympic Games, the Czech news agency CTK reported.
At the same time it promised to take all necessary measures for Prague and the Czech Olympic Committee to fulfill all their duties at hundred percent, Stehlikova said.
The government, however, emphasized in its resolution that it does not pledge to provide financial guarantees anytime during Prague's Olympic candidacy, CTK said.
The financial side of the project is to be discussed next year, it added.
The legal guarantees will be part of the application form the representatives of Prague's candidacy will take to the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) headquarters on Sunday.
On the contrary, the junior governing party Christian Democrats(KDU-CSL) and Greens voted against it.
The project's opponents were convinced that Prague will use the guarantees in support of its arguments concerning the project's financial aspects.
According to a Price water house Coopers study, direct costs will amount to 88 billion crowns. The organizers expect 47 billion crowns to come from public sources, including 25 billion from the state budget. Another 500 billion crowns would have to be spent on the infrastructure.
Prague, the capital of the Czech republic, officially joined the contest for the 2016 summer Olympic Games last September.
