The Venezuela men's volleyball team has been invited by the FIVB to compete in the 2008 World League in place of Canada which has to withdraw due to financial problems.
"The FIVB is pleased to have Venezuela back in the World League," said FIVB President Dr. Ruben Acosta. "With its enthusiasm, this country can give a boost to the competition."
"Venezuela's TV market is one of the biggest in South America. I hope that they will follow all the high standards requested by a competition of the World League's level." the FIVB President said.
Venezuela will replace Canada in Pool A and will compete against Brazil, France and Serbia. The calendar of the 2008 World League will follow the same formula as the last edition: four pools of four teams will compete for six weekends, from Friday 13 June to Sunday 20 July, 2008.
Following are the groupings of the 2008 World League:
Pool A: Brazil, France, Serbia, Venezuela
Pool B: Russia, Cuba, South Korea, Italy
Pool C: United States, Bulgaria, Spain, Finland
Pool D: Poland, Japan, China, Egypt
