China's "diving queen" Guo Jingjing is set to win China's sixth gold medal at the "Good Luck Beijing" 16th FINA Diving World Cup in her favorite women's three-meter springboard event Saturday night.
But most importantly, she will get more prepared for her defending campaign in the Water Cube, which will host the Olympic Games diving and swimming competitions in less than six months.
Guo, 27, has won almost everything that diving can offer in hercareer. She will compete in her fourth Olympic Games in the Water Cube following her appearances in Atlanta, Sydney and Athens.
She has been crowned in the world championships for four straight times since 2001. In the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, she finally became the Olympic champion at 23.
The only challenge might be from her teammate Wu Minxia, who followed her to win the silver in Athens.
Wu, 22, led the preliminary competition Friday morning with five high-level dives at 366.00, while Guo trailed at 328.60.
Chantelle Newbery of Australia, winner of the 10m platform event in the Athens Olympic Games and came back from retirement inmid-2007, will also compete against the two Chinese, but she was not in her best and stood at 12th in the preliminaries.
The FINA Diving World Cup, which runs from Feb. 19 to 25, serves as an Olympic qualifier and attracts 296 divers from 56 countries and regions.
