The Qatar Table Tennis Association (QTTA) announced in a personal letter to the ITTF President Adham Sharara the withdrawal of its bid for the 2011 World Table Tennis Championships, according to a report on the ITTF website.

The QTTA would like to bid for the event in 2013 on the occasion of its 50th anniversary, the report said. In 2011 the Netherlands Table Tennis Association (NTTB) will celebrate its 75th anniversary.

"The ITTF is very grateful for the elegant gesture made by the Qatar Table Tennis Association in consideration of our member association from the Netherlands," Sharara explained.

"This is a show of unity and support between the members of theITTF. The ITTF was confident that both bids provided excellent conditions for the participants. We now thank Qatar for its decision and we wish the Netherlands Table Tennis Association all the best in their preparations for 2011."

The bid of the NTTB is therefore the only one for the Championships in 2011. The ITTF member associations have to endorse the Dutch bid at the ITTF Annual General Meeting (AGM) to be held here on February 27, 2008.

The city of Rotterdam promises to host an excellent event. The Dutch bid captivates especially with its venue Ahoy Sport and Events Center. The facilities in the second biggest port city after Shanghai will provide seats up to 15.000 spectators and offer everything that "make excellent television broadcasts possible" according to the bid brochure.

The World Championships in 2009 will be in the Japanese city of Yokohama; the Russian capital Moscow will host the event in 2010.
