President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev will participate in Wednesday's torch relay in Almaty, the mayor of Almaty said Monday.
Nazarbayev might be the first to run the Almaty race, but the plan is not settled yet, mayor Imangali Tasmagambetov told Xinhua.
The relay in Almaty will be divided into two parts. The first part will be carried out on the Medeu snow mountain and the secondin the downtown area of the city which ends at the Astana Square, Tasmagambetov said.
He believed the Olympic torch relay in Almaty will be carried out safely and peacefully.
The 2011 Winter Asian Games will be held at Astana and Almaty of Kazakhstan. The mayor said Beijing's experiences in hosting the Olympics are worth learning.
"I believe Beijing Olympic Games will be a well-organized and unforgettable sports festival," he added.
