The scheduled visit of the world governing football body FIFA to Nigeria to inspect facilities for the 2009 under-17 World Cup has been put off, an official of the Nigeria 2009 Local Organizing Committee has said.
Emeka Odikpo, spokesman for the Nigeria 2009 LOC, told Xinhua on Wednesday that the postponement was a decision best known to the FIFA's delegate.
According to him, the Jack Warner, FIFA's vice president led team was expected to lead the same team that inspected facilities in various centers for the competition earlier this year to the country for the second inspection next week but had to postpone their coming to Nigeria till the end of June.
He said the FIFA headquarters in Zurich had communicated with the Nigeria Football Association (NFA), to inform them of the development, adding that the FIFA's delegate was currently involved in other official duties.
"We understand that a key member in the team was hospitalized with chickenpox," he said.
He informed that the LOC was ready for the visit, assuring that the facilities earmarked for the under-17 World Cup in Nigeria would meet the required standard.
"I think this will also help us prepare very well for their arrival later in June," he said. Source:Xinhua
