Turkish athlete Sureyya Ayhan Kop will apply to Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the decision banning her from the fields for four years, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported on Friday.

Osman Buldan, lawyer of Kop family, said Sureyya's husband Yucel Kop would also apply to CAS to seek for remedy against the decision banning him from the fields for 2 years.

The Arbitration Board of General Directorate of Youth & Sports of Turkey (GSGM) decided to reduce to 4 years Turkish athlete Sureyya Ayhan Kop's life-time ban which was previously given by Turkey's Athletics Federation (TAF) after Kop tested positive for illegal drugs last September.

In 2004, Kop broke doping testing rules, and was banned from fields for two years. In November 2007, she failed out of competition tests while she was training in USA and banned from professional sports for lifetime.

Kop appealed to GSGM's Arbitration Board in February and the board sent back the decision banning her from fields to the Athletics Federation of Turkey.

Upon the federation's reaffirming the decision in April, the Turkish athlete decided to appeal a second time. After the second appeal, GSGM decided to reduce Kop's life-time ban to 4 years.

The Turkish middle-distance runner claimed the 1500-meter European title in Munich in 2002. She won the silver medal in the World Championships in 2003.
