International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) on Tuesday adopted a proposal that each team could have up to 14 players with compulsory two libero players on the list.
The major change is made by volleyball's governing body FIVB at its 31st Congress. Under the new rule, a match squad may have up to 14 players from current 12 players, including two liberos. Six players are on court with coaches allowed to use a libero.
Under the new rule, the coaches will be free to have more technical solutions, FIVB spokesman Fabrizio Rossini said. The new rule is to be carried out in volleyball matches as from Jan. 1, 2009.
The 31st FIVB World Congress is held on June 16-17 in Dubai, the economic hub of the United Arab Emigrates. Volleyball governing body FIVB, founded in 1947, is the largest international sporting federation in the world.
