Public weather services for the 2008 Beijing Olympics were fully launched in May, signifying that Olympics weather services have officially begun.
Beijing Olympic Meteorology Service Center personnel have explained that weather reporting services for Olympic competition venues, Games-related transportation, travel, co-host cities, and Games-related life have been newly added to the Olympics weather service system on top of existing public weather services. The Center will provide weather reports every 3 hours for Olympic venues and Games-related traffic, as well as round-the-clock traffic and weather reports for each of Beijing's ring roads, expressways, and national highways. These reports will include visibility, road temperature, road conditions, friction factor, probability and volume of precipitation, depth of water, etc. In order to provide tourists with weather reports of historical sites and famous attractions, the Center will provide forecasts for ultraviolet radiation, sunstroke, comfort level, air quality, and other elements of daily life for visitors to the Games, along with forecasts of city weather and Game-time weather conditions.
Through television, radio, newspapers, the Internet, cell phone SMS, landline phones, display screens on the streets, early warning towers, and other platforms for public weather services, the Center will provide a "green channel" of prompt Olympics weather information to the public.
