NEW YORK: Rich "Goose" Gossage was the only player inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York, on Sunday, along with former manager Dick Williams.
The 57-year-old Gossage, who retired in 1994, was one of the premier relief pitchers of his era but was only elected to the Hall in January on his ninth attempt.
"My whole career is kind of storybook," Gossage told reporters. "If I had to write out a script, I wouldn't change a single thing.
"All I ever wanted to do was put a big-league uniform on one time. And that one time turned into 22 years."
Gossage compiled a 124-107 record with 310 saves. He appeared in 1,002 games with an ERA of 3.01 and ranks third in both wins in relief (115) and innings pitched in relief (1,556).
