The 2008 International Convention on Science Education and Medicine in Sport opened in south Chinese city Guangzhou on Friday.

Chinese Olympic chief Liu Peng made a keynote speech in the convention that attracted 2,000 sports officials, scientists and Olympic experts.

International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge said in a pre-recorded video speech that he believed the convention will help promote science and cooperation in sports.
