Charlotte, South Carolina: Star wide receiver Steve Smith was suspended for two National Football League games by the Carolina Panthers for punching a teammate in the face during practice.

Smith punched Ken Lucas on Friday during a scuffle which was broken up by linebacker Jon Beason.

The three-time all-star will miss regular season games against Chicago and San Diego.

Last season, Smith led the Panthers in catches (87), yards (1,002) and touchdowns (seven).
