More foreign leaders arrive in Beijing to cheer on their athletes

More state leaders and royals have arrived in Beijing since the start of the Olympic Games on Aug. 8, to cheer on their athletes.

Swedish King Carl Gustaf XVI and Queen Silvia arrived at the Beijing Capital International Airport on Friday afternoon.

They were greeted by Chinese government representative, Vice Minister of Commerce Yu Guangzhou.

The royal couple will watch sports events in which Swedish athletes compete, and they are scheduled to attend the closing of the Olympics.

After the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics, Singaporean President S. R. Nathan, Hungarian Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany, and Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek have also arrived to watch sports events and for other activities of the Games.

The US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Britain's Prime Minister Gordon Brown are also expected to arrive in Beijing in the coming days to attend the closing ceremony and other activities.
