Qatari Nasser Al-Attiyah and his Ulster co-driver Chris Patterson won the Troodos Rally on Sunday for the sixth consecutive year, securing the 2008 FIA Middle East Rally Championship (MERC).

They steered their Subaru Impreza to the first place after a 14-stage competition which covered 678 kilometers in the past two days, most in the Troodos mountainous area.

They were followed by Charalambos Timotheu/Panayiotis Shalos and Constantinos Tingerides/Angelos Loizides respectively, both from Cyprus.

Al-Attiyah has entered the record books as the first driver ever to win three FIA Championships in the same year, following their victories in the FIA Cup for Cross Country Baja, and the FIA World Cup for Cross Country Rallies.

The Troodos Rally this year moved to the west coast of Cyprus and was based in the picturesque town of Geroskipou, near the renowned resort of Paphos.
