Thailand will host the first ever Aerobic Gymnastics Asian Championships at Fashion Island, Bangkok, from December 5 - 7, the Asian Gymnastics Union (AGU) released here on Saturday.

Aerobic Gymnastics is a top-level competitive discipline that presents dynamic moves, strength, flexibility, co-ordination and musical selections in a routine. The discipline is not yet widely known in the Asia.

To AGU, hosting the event in Bangkok for the first time ever is a great opportunity for Asia to promote and develop aerobics throughout the region.

"Over the three days of competitions, spectators, the media and gymnasts will get a chance to revel in a truly spectacular sport, one that requires a good deal of skill," said Anis Saoud, technical secretary of AGU. "The championship is considered one of the most important aerobic events in Asia."

"The Asian Gymnastics Union will support and encourage the organizing committee as it labors to make this fantastic event a full success," added he.

Ten national federations have confirmed their participation in the event: Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, China, India, Iran, Japan, South Korea, Mongolia, Thailand and Vietnam, bringing the total of participating gymnasts to 122.
